Development 1

The brief was to create a helmet for a belgian short-film. The design has to be a greek/spartan helmet with 17th century/art nouveau ornamentation incorporated into it, with the "comb" on the top facing towards the front.

Based on that, I made some sketches to see what the director liked for the design.

While a lot of the helmet designs were liked and a direction for it was found, the comb wasn't really working yet. I decided to try out some options in 3D, and went into developing a basic blockout in max to use in zbrush later.

I then blocked out the basic proportions, so I could start going into more detail. I used the basic demohead of zbrush to approximate the actress' head

I started a first pass on the ornamentation and detailing on the helmet from there, as well as adapting the demohead to fit the actress' proportions more.

Now I still have to clean up a lot of the detailing since I've gone a more loose route in my sculpting instead of using cleaner sculpting techniques. Fleshing out the details from here is still a bit of a challenge since the initial messyness of the sculpt is working a bit against my efforts to get it more clean.

I'm also going to use the sculpt as a base to paint in possible colors/materials using photoshop. A very weathered version of the prop needs to be made aswell, so I'll be figuring that out in that phase as well.

The model is intended to be 3D printed eventually, so after concepting things in photoshop the model will have to be reworked.
